DAVID GREENBERG BIOGRAPHY


David Greenberg AttorneyDavid Greenberg has practiced law in southeast Louisiana since 1981. He has tried a diverse range of bench and jury trials to verdict. He has also successfully settled innumerable cases during his career by use of both formal and informal mediation and direct negotiations between counsel.


Mr. Greenberg’s range of experience includes handling of personal injury disputes in both state court and federal court. He has obtained a multimillion dollar verdict for a client in a serious injury case in federal court and has obtained a large number of settlements for seriously injured parties and the heirs of those wrongfully killed due to the negligence of others.



Professional History


As a young attorney, David Greenberg was assigned various types of motions in civil cases including motions and rules in domestic cases. Mr. Greenberg had some early success in handling of these matters and through the years he has both prosecuted and defended the entire range of cases in the area of family law. In the handling of these types of cases, Mr. Greenberg learned how to handle himself in the courtroom in the most contentious of circumstances.

In the area of business law, Mr. Greenberg has prosecuted a wide range of cases in the area of breach of contract. He has obtained injunctive relief for a business enjoining an individual from using his own name in a competing business. Mr. Greenberg has prosecuted cases seeking injunctive relief and damages for business clients whose former employees have violated noncompetition agreements.

Most recently, Mr. Greenberg tried a business interruption case together with his partner, Adrian LaPeyronnie, for their client, a medical practice, seeking loss of business income insurance from its insurer due to Hurricane Katrina. This case, tried in Civil District Court in New Orleans in February, 2009, resulted in a jury returning a verdict for a loss of one month of business income for the firm’s client in the amount of $445,790.00 together with statutory penalties of 25% and legal interest.



Education and Qualifications


Mr. Greenberg is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he majored in Economics. He is a 1981 graduate of the Tulane University School of Law. He is a member of the Louisiana, New Orleans and Jefferson Bar Associations.  Mr. Greenberg served on the Executive Board of the Jefferson Bar Association from 1991 through 1998, serving as president of the Jefferson Bar Association for the 1996-1997 term.

Mr. Greenberg currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Tulane University School of Law teaching advocacy and trial skills in the Trial Advocacy Program.

Mr. Greenberg was identified as one of New Orleans' "Top Lawyers" in New Orleans magazine in its November, 2009 publication. He has been rated "AV" by Martindale Hubbell, which is one of the oldest and most respected peer-review publications in the legal profession.  This is the highest possible peer review rating.

 

Mr. Greenberg worked for over two years as an active member of the Jefferson Parish Domestic Rules Revision Committee in 2002-2004. This committee was empowered to rewrite the Domestic Rules of Court for Jefferson Parish. David Greenberg worked with judges, domestic hearing officers and other domestic attorneys to help refashion the rules governing the operation of domestic courts in Jefferson Parish.

Mr. Greenberg is admitted to practice in all courts in Louisiana including Federal Courts in the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Claims in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Greenberg is a native of Gretna, Louisiana and currently lives in New Orleans, Louisiana. He and his wife, Lauren, have three children, Michael, Ryan and Molly.
